59-year-old man killed in suspected vigilante attack after elderly man stabbed to death
A 59-year-old man has died after he was assaulted in what appears to have been a vigilante attack in the Giyani area in Limpopo.
Police were called out to Ndindani village on Saturday afternoon and found two men “lying in a pool blood”, said police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mamphaswa Seabi.
The first victim, Mkacani Solomon Chabalala, 79, was declared dead on the scene. The second victim, aged 59, who was allegedly assaulted by residents, was transported to the nearby hospital. He later succumbed to his injuries. He was identified as Ben Shivuri.
Initial investigations pointed to a vigilante attack by residents after Shivuri was accused of stabbing Chabalala to death, said Seabi.
“Police are now investigating two cases of murder. The motive for the incident in which an elderly man was stabbed is unknown at this stage,” said Seabi.
“Police investigations continue.”
Seabi has urged anyone with information to contact the investigating officer Detective Warrant Officer Morris Maswanganyi on 082 565 6491.
