Everton vs Man United: Real Reason I Benched Pogba In EPL Game – Rangnick.. Manchester United interim manager, Ralf Rangnick, has explained why he benched Paul Pogba in his side’s Premier League, starting XI against Everton on Saturday.
Rangnick opted to start Nemanja Matic and drop Pogba to the bench against Everton as Anthony Gordon’s first-half goal ensured Frank Lampard’s men defeated Man United at Goodison Park.
Pogba has been more of a regular feature in Rangnick’s side after returning from a hamstring injury.
The France international started in Man United’s last Premier League 1-1 draw with Leicester City at Old Trafford.
But the World Cup winner has to settle for a place on the substitutes bench against Everton.
Explaining his selection decision, Rangnick described Matic as one of the best No.6s Man United have when it comes to possession.
“I had to choose between him [Matic] and Pogba and I decided to start with Nemanja, as a holding six he’s one of the best players we have in possession of the ball so that’s why I went with him,” Rangnick told MUTV.
Meanwhile, Pogba replaced Fred in the first half of the encounter.
