FA Cup final: Thomas Tuchel explains reasons for dropping Mendy as Kepa starts against Leicester…. Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel, has said back-up goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga ‘deserves’ to play in the FA Cup final against Leicester City, ahead of number one Edouard Mendy.
Mendy replaced Kepa as the Blues’ first-choice following his move from Rennes last summer.
However, Tuchel will start Kepa in Saturday’s FA Cup final at Wembley.
According to the German, Kepa ‘deserves’ to play having featured in all five of the club’s FA Cup matches so far this season.
“Kepa will start the FA Cup final.
“If you have a goalkeeper for this competition like we have had with Kepa, you don’t change in the final.
“He is part of the group and he brought us to the final so he deserves to play. Tomorrow is the next challenge for him,” Tuchel said on Friday afternoon.
