One student from the Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka was killed and two others whisked away by suspected gunmen.

Stephen Ebruba Odje, a 400L Medical Biochemistry student, was assassinated, while Divine Omajuwa and Miss Hamza Hussena Jennifer, both of the Geology and Pharmacology departments, were kidnapped in a car on their way to start the 2020/2021 academic year.

Nigerian Tribune was informed by a student who didn’t want to disclose her identity that the student was killed at Oria, around 9:30 on Sunday July 11.

The student said;

“What I heard was that they were going to school when they were held at Eku by the gunmen. There were three people in the vehicle, the one that was killed is a cousin to the owner of the car while the lady is his (deceased) girlfriend,” the student said.

The death and kidnapping were condemned by the university administration, which verified the incident.

The management, in a statement issued by the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Professor Chukwujindu Iwegbue, called on the appropriate security authorities to apprehend the assailants and ensure the safe rescue of the abducted victims.

DSP Bright Edafe, a spokesperson for the State Police Command, confirmed the occurrence and stated that the command was working round the clock to rescue the abducted pupils as well as apprehend the offenders.
