Is Tulsa King Based On A True Story?
Tulsa King is not based on a true story. The Sopranos’ Emmy-winning writer Terence Winter is credited with creating the show, which was conceived by Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan. David Glasser, Sheridan’s producing partner, recently revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that Sheridan created the Tulsa King pilot script in one day. Although the show’s principal creator, Taylor Sheridan, acknowledged that Tulsa King is entirely fictional and has no genuine basis in actual events, the trailer alone makes it seem immensely authentic. The show feels even more genuine and real because of some potential parallels that can be made with other fictional works.
What Is Tulsa King About?
In the crime thriller Tulsa King, Dwight Manfredi, who has just been freed from jail after serving 25 years, is the main character. Dwight has remained silent during his imprisonment, never revealing information about his superiors or their business dealings and essentially serving as a fall person for the men in positions of authority. Dwight, a “made man” in the Mafia, also known as “The General,” has been sent to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to create a new criminal organization there. However, Dwight is suspicious of the true motivations behind his assignment and begins to assemble his own ragtag band of partners in a place he is unfamiliar with.
