Lionel Messi And Cristiano Ronaldo’s Votes For Best Manager And Goalkeeper Released.. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo’s votes for the FIFA best awards have been revealed, with a few surprise selections from the pair.
As seems to be a bit of a long-standing tradition, neither player voted for one another in the Best Men’s Player votes.
Messi showed his support for PSG teammates Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in his top two, with Karim Benzema making up his final three.
Ronaldo’s picks were award winner Robert Lewandowski, N’Golo Kante and Jorginho in that order.
As captains of their respective countries, both Messi and Ronaldo had their say in the other sections.
For the best goalkeeper award, Ronaldo went with Chelsea’s Champions League hero Edouard Mendy as his number one selection, then Gianluigi Donnarumma and Kasper Schmeichel after their Euro 2020 showings.
But Messi continued his PSG-centric voting by going for Donnarumma in first place, followed by Alisson Becker and Manuel Neuer.
And when it came to the best men’s coach, Messi voted for his Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni, who guided La Albiceleste to a first major international honour since 1993 as they won the Copa America in the summer.
Roberto Mancini got his second vote and his former boss Pep Guardiola completed the voting form.
Thomas Tuchel, who won the award, was completely overlooked by Messi – though Ronaldo had him down as the second name on his ballot after Mancini. Scaloni was his third and final pick.
Ronaldo finished seventh in the overall Best Men’s Player rankings but received a special award at the ceremony in Zurich, Switzerland after becoming the highest international goalscorer.
