“The Matrix” broke minds, the box office, and very nearly backs when it first hit screens worldwide back in 1999. In the over 20 years since its premiere, the word “matrix” has become synonymous with the feeling that you’re living in a world not quite settled in reality (kind of like the entirety of 2020).
Since many figured that the third “Matrix” film—”The Matrix Revolution” (2003)—was the final one to wrap up the trilogy, it was quite the surprise when Hollywood announced a reboot of the franchise once again starring age-defying-wiseman, Keanu Reeves. It was also just-as-baffling considering the fact that, as Nerdist points out, Reeves’s character, Neo, and Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) both died at the end.
So how, then, could a fourth movie possibly be possible? That, friends, remains to be seen, as the movie’s official Wikipedia page partly summarizes the plot as “…Neo lives a seemingly ordinary life under his original identity in San Francisco with a therapist who prescribes him blue pills to counteract the strange and unnatural things he occasionally glimpses.” Then he runs into someone who looks awfully like Trinity.
Did they actually die? Or did they somehow get rebooted from death, as the film’s title implies? Were any more spoons harmed in the making of this film?
Guess we’ll have to watch to see.
Make the decision to take either the blue or red pill by streaming “The Matrix Resurrections” on HBO Max starting Dec. 22.
