South African musician Mthandazo Gatya is hoping the recent endorsement he got from the United States RnB musician John Legend will be the launch pad of his career.

Gatya put together a TikTok mashup for John Legend’s open verse challenge. This was in response to an invitation by John Legend to budding musicians on TikTok to tag him singing an original verse to his latest track, Nervous off his latest album Legend.

John Legend may be looking for a collaboration with someone off TikTok or him trying to promote his latest offering.

Gatya sang in his native tongue and while John Legend probably did not understand a word of what he was singing he was nonetheless blown away by the South African musician’s artistry.

Singing in a style reminiscent of Lady Smith Black Mambazo, Mthandazo Gatya did not only wow John Legend but thousands of others on TikTok.

In response to Gatya’s Nervous Open Verse Challenge submission, John Legend commented with multiple fire emojis.

Gatya took to Twitter to thank all those who had a part in ensuring that John Legend sees his Nervous Open Verse Challenge submission. He wrote:

Thank you all for making sure John Legend sees my duet, great news is that he loved it and replied. As to what will happen next, we can leave that to God, thank you from the bottom of my heart
