The strike, organised by two of Cape Town’s taxi associations, the Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (CATA) and the Congress of Democratic Taxi Association (CODETA), started early morning and has caused the blockage of the N2.

The two taxi associations are striking for issues which include impoundments of taxis, unfair requirements for release of impounded taxis and various other issues directly affecting the Cape’s taxi industry.

CATA and CODETA members marched to the Western Cape Premier Alan Winde’s offices to submit their grievances. As they started marching in the morning, they were walking as a large crowd, with their taxis following behind them, completely blocking the road.
