Who Is Jonghyun?

Jonghyun’s birth name is Kim Jong-hyun, was born on April 8, 1990, in Seoul, South Korea. Jonghyun was a South Korean singer-songwriter, author, record producer, and radio host under the SM Entertainment label. He was the main singer of the South Korean boy crew Shinee for nine years, releasing twelve albums with the group in both Korean and Japanese. He also partook in SM Entertainment’s project company, SM the Ballad, for the out of two EP albums. Jonghyun was also a solo artist, initiating in January 2015 with the release of his first EP album, Base. It peaked at number one on the Billboard World Albums Chart and the Gaon Album Chart. he was considered one of the best vocalists in South Korea. He also received praise for his artistic control and involvement in creating his music, which is rare in K-pop.

What Happened To Jonghyun?

In December 2017, Jonghyun passed away from suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning. In his suicide note, he talks about his struggle with depression and the pressures of being in the public eye. Jonghyun’s death was linked to depression by different media platforms. Following Jonghyun’s death, fellow singer and buddy Nine9 of the band Dear Cloud publicized on Instagram Jonghyun’s suicide message, which he had transmitted to her two or three days before his December 9 show. The message referred to a “devouring” depression and his battles with fame. Nine9 was shocked by the note and was advised by her agency to keep in contact with Jonghyun. She had attempted to help him, but this only “postponed his passing” and “did not stop it.
